Letter From the President of ACTJ, the Association of Canadian Teachers in Japan

Dear ACTJ Members and Friends of Canadians in Japan,

Summer greetings. I trust you have received the hot summer issue of Canadian Content, had time to read it on the beach on Vancouver Island, at the seaside on PEI or perhaps like me your read it at a campsite in Algonquin Park. If you haven’t got a copy, please visit our association website www.actj.org to read the updates on our autumn equinox conference at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo.
To keep these ACTJ membership benefits coming your way, I am pleased to announce that the ACTJ Executive Board has welcomed Rick Bales to be our new ACTJ membership chair. Rick took on the role when Courtney, our past chair, went overseas to continue her studies.
Richard Bales is originally from Winnipeg, Canada and has been living in Saitama since 2002. During the last eight years, he has worked as an instructor in an ESL program at the University of Mnitoba, Canada, as a ALT on the JET Program in elementary and junior high schools in Iwatsuki, Saitama, and during the last three years as an NET for Saitama City. Rick currently instructs at Tokyo Kasei University in Tokyo. His interests are vocabulary, SLA, and corpus linguistics. In his role as ACTJ membership chair Rick will welcome new members, help you to renew expiring memberships and post messages about membership for you. The Annual Mini-Conference
Keynote Speaker: Garold Murray
Canadian Embassy, Tokyo September 23rd, 2008 (National Holiday)(members ¥1,000 / non-members ¥1,500) The Association of Canadian Teachers in Japan is pleased to announce their annual mini-conference will be held on September, 23, 2008 at the Canadian Embassy from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. The day will be devoted to presentations both by members of ACTJ and other participants. The mini-conference will feature a total of 12 presentations in four sessions, dealing with various aspects of language teaching, learning, acquisition, and other related information that attendees will be able to apply to the classroom.
